Mitsubishi’s Prototype-S, a ‘to be produced concept’ of the new Lancer Sportback, will debut at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show on March 4. Mitsubishi Japan has also announced plans to bring this Sportsback version to the United States soon after launching it in the European market. The Lancer Sportback would compete head on with Subaru’s new Impreza which too is a hatch and looks cool being that.

The Lancer Sportback draws on the Lancer Evolution’s exterior styling but now has a hatch tailgate and new taillamps. The front looks almost identical to the Evo X with the large open mouth like grille, hood vents, sharp headlights etc. The Ralliart version is likely to be blessed with a 238bhp version of the Evo’s 2 litre turbo engine and a 6 speed semi-auto gearbox. This should be enough to propel the sportback from 0-60mph in less than 6 seconds. Still need an Evo?
